Moratorium Dates
Every summer, there are 2 moratorium weeks where there is no volleyball. If feasible, we ask that families of high school athletes plan their vacations during one or both moratoriums. Each of our athletes must get as much time training in the gym as possible.
Tryouts + Team Practice
Tryouts take place on Monday, August 3rd. Attendance is required for both sessions. Tryout Session #1 will be 9:00-11:00 am, Session #2 will be 1:00-3:00 pm. All players will be informed of the coach’s decisions by the end of Session #2.
Practice times throughout the season:
Non-Match Days:
3:45 - 6:00 pm
Fridays:
2:45 - 5:00 pm
FAQs
Is summer training mandatory?
No. However, it is strongly encouraged, as the volleyball program at Bishop Chatard is very competitive. Not only does training help prepare us for the upcoming season, it also helps us get a much better idea of talent, potential, and dedication. Once tryouts roll around in August, we will evaluate potential players during the tryout, but will also consider the body of work from the summer.
What if I haven’t played club volleyball or volleyball at all? Can I still participate in summer training and tryouts?
You can absolutely still join us, no matter your volleyball history. We encourage it! There have been several athletes over the years with little to no volleyball experience who ended up being an integral part of the program. It’s all about your potential, work ethic, attitude, and needs of the program.
What if I can’t make it to some or all of the summer training? Can I still tryout?
The short answer is ‘yes’. While we strongly encourage that every athlete make it to every possible volleyball event throughout the summer, we do understand that things come up. In the event that you can’t make it, we ask that you let the coaching staff know in advance so that we can plan accordingly.
When do tryouts begin?
Tryouts are MANDATORY and start the Monday after the last moratorium. Athletes can expect TWO tryouts OR practices per day leading up to when school begins. See the Calendar for dates and times.
How many athletes make each team?
We will have a Freshman, JV, and Varsity team. The amount we keep on each team varies based on the needs of the program. For Freshman and JV, we typically keep 12 to 14. For Varsity, we keep anywhere from 10 to 14. Again, this is all based on the current needs of the program, but also planning for the future.
